Gopiganj colony is more than a decade old. It has more than five thousand residents who have constructed their own houses. It has two schools, a hospital and a community centre.

Unfortunately, the residents of the colony have not been provided with the bang needs and necessities of ordinary living. Drinking water supply and sewage connection have not been provided in our locality. It is difficult to imagine that we are living in the 21st century and that too in a prosperous state like Kanpur. Gopiganj is mostly inhabited by the people belonging to uneconomically weaker sections. But aren't they human beings entitled to enjoy the basic needs of life? Lack of quality drinking water supply forces the residents to look towards other alternatives. The cost is prohibitive The substandard water supply in the colony through unauthorised water-tankers usually creates health problems. Diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases are very common among infants and children. Without a proper sewage connection, the drains are usually filled with dirt and garbage. Water logging adds to the woes of the residents in the rainy season.
